We are excited to bring Discipleship Now Weekend back into the fold of our schedule this year! Discipleship Now (DNOW) is an intown retreat where students will spend the weekend doing missions, small groups, worship, and of course having fun.  Each group will stay at a host home and with their college leaders. This year, in order to participate in the overnight part of the trip, all students will be required to show a proof of COVID vaccination or provide a negative COVID test result. If your youth would like to participate in DNOW but does not feel comfortable staying overnight, that is ok! They can be picked up and dropped off the following morning.

Do you follow any celebrities on social media? If so, you have probably noticed a little blue checkmark next to their name. Whether you’re on TikTok, Instagram, or still rocking the Twitter, you may recognize the blue check as the symbol for “verified”. In other words, this is the real person. There may be 2000 Kanye’s on Instagram, but this is the real one. There may be a million Taylor Swift lookalike accounts, but the blue check means you’re following the queen herself. It’s kind of nice because, while the fake accounts may be entertaining, it’s not the same as following the original. And, if we’re honest, spotting the difference isn’t easy.

Maybe you’ve noticed there are different versions of you that pop up in different situations. Maybe you talk one way at school and a totally different way at home. There’s a version of you that shows up with your boyfriend or girlfriend, but a different version of you shows up to basketball practice. Your parents describe you as one way, your friends describe you another, and your teachers see somebody completely different. And maybe it makes you wonder, which one is the real deal? Which one gets the verified checkmark? In other words,

Who are you…really?

It’s an important question because who you are, and who you think you are, will decide a lot about your life. It’ll impact who you hang out with, what you try, how you treat yourself and how you treat other people. Long story short, your identity will determine the quality of your life now and in the future. That’s why during this retreat we’ll look beyond the labels and go directly to the only One who can verify who you are and who you were made to be. As we do, you may just find yourself stepping away from average, moving past what is “normal” and into a life that is one-of-a-kind.
