As we read the story of Elijah, we briefly encounter a woman who is not even given a name – simply known as “a widow” from Zarephath. Hers is just a blip on the radar in Elijah’s great story. But, if we only see her as a background character, we miss a huge part of the story God is trying to tell. While she is often upheld as a model of faith and provision, let’s bring her to center stage, and see what else we can discover about the plans and purposes of God through her story.
