In 2022, Middletown Christian Church created the Imago Dei Initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to help our church create a place of belonging for all of God’s children. As part of that initiative, we appointed a team of church members to help guide our journey. Join us as we discuss and celebrate the work they have been doing and as we introduce this year’s Imago Dei focus – Belonging and Inclusion.

This worship and small group series begins Sunday, April 7th.

Series Outline

Key Scripture: John 4:1-42

We all want to belong, whether it’s in our families, our friend groups, our workplaces, or our churches. Churches should be the one place where everyone belongs without exception. However, the church has often excluded people instead.

In this week’s sermon we’re exploring Jesus’ vision of a community where everyone can belong and how Middletown Christian Church can make that vision a reality.

The Bible is a rich collection of stories, poems, and histories that detail humanity’s evolving relationship with God and each other. This week we’re exploring the value of listening to a diverse set of voices when interpreting scripture and how reading scripture through an intersectional lens can broaden our understanding of who God is.

Key Scriptures: Mark 12:30-31, Luke 4:14-21, Acts 2:42-47, Isaiah 61

God’s vision for the Church is a diverse community where people with different backgrounds and identities can find belonging and connection. This week’s sermon explores what an intersectional faith community looks like in practice and how it shapes the church’s mission in the world.
