Build a Bed Event

November 19, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

We are partnering with Louisville Build A Bed, a project is coordinated by JCPS AmeriCorps, to build 25 beds for children in need. We are hosting the build at the MCC gym on Sunday, November 19 from 1 p.m. -4 p.m. We will have lunch together from 12:15 p.m. -1 p.m. and have the build directly after lunch.

If you would like to participate in the build. We have three different jobs:

  1. Build Team: Volunteers on this team will be building the bed frames. Each team will be supplied with all the hardware and tools needed to build the beds. We have five build teams and there are six volunteer slots for each team. Our team leaders are Bill Wilson, John Schulz, Tammy Moriarty, Mike Moriarty, and Zac Johnston. Volunteers will sign up under a specified team leader’s team on the form below.
  2. Bed Slat Writing Team: Volunteers on this team will write encouraging notes with markers on bed slats. This a great volunteer opportunity for child or anyone who may not be able to do the physical aspect of the build. We need 12 volunteers for this team.
  3. Bed Wrapping and Loading Team: Volunteers on this team will wrap the beds with plastic wrap to ensure safe transport and assist with loading them on the Uhaul truck. We need at least 8 volunteers for this team.

Louisville Build A Bed believes in “building dreams one bed at a time.”  It’s estimated that anywhere from 10,000 to 13,000 students go homeless in Louisville. Louisville Build A Bed aims to create a response to this need in the community. In 2018, Louisville Build A Bed was an WLKY Bell Award recipient. The Bell Award recognizes individuals/organizations who have demonstrated the true “Spirit of Louisville” through selfless volunteer efforts and seeks to inspire all residents to engage in community service.
