Upcoming Community Outreach Opportunities

Ongoing Community Outreach Opportunities

MCC Food Pantry

We recently asked our local food pantry partners how we could better serve them. They all mentioned that there are times of year when food donations are low. So we now have a backup food pantry that can donate goods to them when they are running low.

Throughout the year, we’ll accept donations of the following items:

  • Canned Fruit
  • Cereal
  • Spaghetti Sauce
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Broth
  • Potatoes (canned or dry)
  • Pancake Mix and Syrup
  • Jelly
  • Laundry Detergent

You can drop off your donations whenever in the outreach closet. Please only donate the items listed.

Buddy Break

Our Children’s Ministry offers Buddy Break, a free respite program that allows children with special needs (VIP kids) to make new friends and enjoy all kinds of activities, while offering caregivers a break from their responsibilities. Our Buddies serve one-on-one with a child, and we also try to have a few extra Buddies to serve as floaters. We are currently the only Buddy Break location in Kentucky. We are proud to offer this awesome program!

Refugee Ministry: Summer/Fall 2024

As we continue to partner with Catholic Charites of Louisville, we are moving closer to resettling and welcoming a refugee family to our community. We will be responsible for helping the family settle into life in a new country for their first 90 days in Louisville.

There are multiple responsibilities that involve us having face to face interactions with the family. If you are interested in being a part of helping this family transition, then we will need a background check and for you to complete a training.

Please fill out this form and we will reach out with further instruction.

Outreach Ministry Leadership Teams

Throughout the year our Outreach Ministries are organized by dedicated volunteers who have a passion and skill set to help plan, coordinate, and execute vision and events. Each person on these teams commits to a one-year term with the potential to recommit each year. If you are interested in serving on one of these leadership teams, please fill out the form below.

Please Note: Because these teams serve for a year and are limited in size, there might not be immediate openings for the team that you select. Corey will follow up as open spots become available.

Teams:

  • Food Insecurities Team: oversees all of our food based partnerships in our city. Organizations include Eastern Area Community Ministries, Hope Buss, Love the Hungry, etc.
  • Housing Insecurities Team: an on call team that helps with any home related projects. *Construction/ Building  experience is helpful*
  • Refugee Leadership Team: oversees our partnership with Catholic Charities of Louisville and is vital in helping our efforts to resettle refugee families.
  • LGBT Partnership Team: helps with all partnerships of organizations who help support our LGBTQ+ community.
  • School Partnership Team: partners with local schools and community resource centers to ensure a working relationship between MCC and JCPS programs.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in any of the above teams.

Ongoing Local Non-Profit Partners

Eastern Area Community Ministries

At EACM, we believe that our community is stronger when our neighbors are fed, sheltered, and safe.

When families face an emergency, we are here to help.  Sometimes that means we help keep food on the table, or keep the lights and water on. Other times, we help families avoid eviction or help parents keep their children clean and healthy with diapers and clothing.

We also partner with families, offering support and resources that equip them in achieving long-term stability.

Workshops are available to learn new skills. Mentorship and one-on-one financial coaching provide encouragement and accountability. Online courses increase financial literacy and professional skills. English classes and support services help our immigrant neighbors adjust to a new life in the United States.

Hand in Hand Ministries

Hand in Hand Ministries believes that building strong communities around the world begins at home. We strengthen our own community by opening hearts and minds to the needs of others through our unique immersion trip program. We provide resources for the economically vulnerable through our on-going programs in LouisvilleBelizeNicaragua and Appalachia that focus on safe housing, education, and health care.

Hope Buss

The Hope Buss is a 501(c)(3) organization that works to bridge the gap between local organizations and the community by attacking hopelessness at its core in a myriad of ways. The Hope Buss strives to connect local organizations to the crisis in the community, create sustainable resources, and invigorate hope and strength into the people. Understanding that needs will vary by each neighborhood, we work to assess the needs of residents and become partners with churches and community organizations to meet those needs.

At The Hope Buss, we strive to turn the needs of the community into strengths, believing that the work we begin will result in sustainable resources from which the community can eventually thrive with the ultimate goal of alleviating poverty.

Louisville Build A Bed

Louisville Build A Bed believes in “building dreams one bed at a time.”  It’s estimated that anywhere from 10,000 to 13,000 students go homeless in Louisville. Louisville Build A Bed aims to create a response to this need in the community. In 2018, Louisville Build A Bed was an WLKY Bell Award recipient. The Bell Award recognizes individuals/organizations who have demonstrated the true “Spirit of Louisville” through selfless volunteer efforts and seeks to inspire all residents to engage in community service.

Waterstep

Waterstep is on a mission is to provide safe water to communities in developing countries through empowerment, equal access, and transformative hope. We are working towards a day when no person has to drink unsafe water.

Wayside Christian Mission

The purpose of the Wayside Christian Mission is to respond to the human need of the poor and homeless by (1) providing temporary housing/shelter, food, clothing, nurturing, spiritual and social enrichment, encouragement and referrals (2) and by providing the support services and skills that would permit and encourage a return to a state of self-sufficiency so that human dignity can be restored and the love of God can be shared.
