In 2022, Middletown Christian Church created the Imago Dei ministry. Imago Dei is the Latin phrase for “image of God.” Building on our statement that all people are made in God’s image and all people are welcome here, the Imago Dei ministry is an intentional effort by Middletown Christian Church to create a church environment where all people can flourish, participate, and belong.
This ministry is led by the Imago Dei Team, which serves three purposes: 1) Review Middletown Christian Church’s efforts to fully live into our welcome statement both within the congregation and the city; 2) Develop opportunities to introduce our community to a diversity of perspectives on topics at the intersection of faith and social justice issues; and 3) partner with local organizations for opportunities to put our education into action.
The Imago Dei Team helps us honor and celebrate the image of God in all people through education, connection, and action.
- Education: short-term small groups, workshops, and panels focusing on topics at the intersection of faith and social justice issues.
- Connection: opportunities for connection between congregation members who are passionate about specific justice issues and for congregation members with marginalized identities.
- Action: serving the community & congregation around social justice issues through partnerships with local organizations and relevant ministry areas within the church.
The Imago Dei Team consists of 8 congregation members representing a variety of demographics within MCC. Team members serve for 1 calendar a year, with team meetings once a month. No previous experience required, just a passion for the work of this team and the mission of Middletown Christian Church.
If you’re passionate about topics at the intersection of faith and social justice and would like to serve on the Imago Dei team for 2026, please fill out the form below by January 28th. The first team meeting will take place in February.
