Sometimes We Miss It

Dear Friends,

Sometimes we miss the most persuasive reason to become a Christian when we share our faith. We tell people Jesus will save them from their sins and reward them with the gift of eternal life. Most people long for forgiveness, and we often contemplate what will happen to us when we die; however, there is something more attractive about following Jesus. Now, don’t get me wrong and think I’ve lost my mind because this is wonderful news. Gosh, amazing news!

However, many people feel an emptiness about their life. They often can feel as though life is one day after another. People want to know, “Why am I here? What is my life about?”  This is a big question, and as Christians we have amazing news about this life, too. There is a beautiful life for us here and now. The teachings of Jesus offer so much. His vision for life is the good life. Sometimes we focus too much on his death, and we miss his life. Everything for Jesus is about serving others and placing the needs of others ahead of our own. It’s where real joy and happiness is found. You don’t receive happiness by chasing it. You receive it by living for a cause larger than yourself.

This is a unique message in a world consumed with self. Still, we often forget what makes being a Christian so attractive. I’m preaching a message this Sunday called You’re Going to Need This. It comes from Hebrews 12:1-4.  It’s about living for something that is bigger than ourselves. Great things happen when we begin to live on assignment for God.

See you Sunday,

David Emery
